INDUSTRIES / ASSESSMENT BASIS

Oil & Gas, petrochemicals and energy

Extraction, conditioning, transport and conversion involve different needs. We relate each stage to pressure vessels, separation and heat exchange; reactors are considered where the process requires reaction. No example confirms suitability for a particular service.

Process chain

One stage. One function. One requirements basis.

  1. 01 / UPSTREAM

    Extraction and fluid conditioning

Two-phase gas–liquid and three-phase separators; knock-out drums for entrained liquid separation.

Phases, flow variation, entrainment and separation objectives to be characterized.

Vessels and separation guidePrepare an inquiry
  2. 02 / MIDSTREAM

    Gas treatment and transport

Scrubbers, process vessels and exchangers for gas conditioning and cooling.

General composition, available utilities and treatment/transport interfaces.

    Heat exchange guidePrepare an inquiry
  3. 03 / DOWNSTREAM

    Refining and petrochemicals

Reflux drums and heat exchange; reactors and columns according to the operation.

Heat balance, fouling, integration and supply boundaries to be clarified.

Equipment and demanding services

Describe the service, do not assume suitability.

Separators and accumulators
Two-phase gas–liquid, three-phase, knock-out drum, scrubber and reflux drum describe functions/configurations that must be clarified. Internals, efficiency and sizing require qualified assessment; they are not guaranteed capabilities.
Process heat exchange
Refining, petrochemicals, amine circuits, gas cooling and CO2 capture are inquiry contexts. Shell-and-tube or plate exchangers are possible categories, not a technology attributed to the document or a manufacturing offer.
H2S, CO2 and amines
These may involve corrosion and other risks depending on composition and conditions. This guidance does not confirm compatibility, material selection, design or safety for these services.

Materials and cladding

Selection belongs to the project.

Stainless steel
Examples of families to assess, with no assumed grades, availability or compatibility.
Duplex and superduplex
Examples of families to assess, with no assumed grades, availability or compatibility.
Nickel alloys
Hastelloy and Inconel are commercial designations of alloy families; they imply neither a relationship with their trademark owners nor guaranteed supply.
Cladding / overlay
Cladding is a layer over a base material, not a standalone material. Its configuration, bonding and inspection require specific definition and validation.

Service, corrosion, conditions and applicable standards govern the assessment. The manufacturer and qualified engineer validate materials and cladding; a name alone does not guarantee suitability.

Questions for procurement preparation

  1. 01Which stage, function and phases must the equipment serve?
  2. 02Which operating conditions are known and which design basis still needs validation?
  3. 03Are there corrosion, entrainment, fouling or cleaning issues to characterize?
  4. 04What does the scope include: internals, auxiliaries, documentation, inspection and interfaces?
  5. 05Where will it be installed and what project horizon is envisaged, without a delivery commitment?

Provide only non-confidential context. This is neither a specification nor a safety approval.

Possible applications

Start with the operation.

Indicative material, not design, company projects, or industry guarantees.

  • Containment and separation of streams within a process facility.
  • Reaction and separation operations when required by the plant’s function.
  • Heat exchange and recovery, whose feasibility must be verified through balances.

To be verified

Criteria to consider before choosing equipment

Design basis
Distinguish normal service, variations, and design scenarios; consider relevant loads and interfaces.
Integrity and access
Verify compatibility, inspection, maintainability, cleaning, and existing-equipment documentation where applicable.
Applicable framework
Country, legal requirements, risk assessment, and code are determined by the appropriate responsible parties; no accreditations are assumed.
